Through analisys and recapitulation of experience of joint production in the frame of the project New Politics of Solidarity, also through presenting of the planned further activities, the team of the project will discuss with the activists, cultural workers and initiatives from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Prishitne the potentialities of culture to intensify of the social cohesion. Considering how the discrimination and racist relations towards Roma people get more visible during the Decade of Inclusion of Roma People, compared to the previous state of their invisibility, culture should be observed as a field which should be the place of articulation of social response to the problem, and not its amortization. The history of scandals and public reactions provoked by cultural production and its visibility opens a question about latent, immanent and manifested racism in societies in Serbia and kosovo, and how culture can participate in the process of repoliticization, a process which is also contributed by the project and platform of New Politics of Solidarity. Cultural workers and activists will talk about the conditions and results of work of Roma cultural iniatives, and in that way a possibility for articulation of common strategies will be established.
On central focus of this tragicomedy of the absurd is a Roma family which was forcedly expelled from Germany to Kosovo. Found in a new reality, this family will have to face the challenges of the recently new born state. A Roma girl, Medelin, one day falls in a hole opened by a construction company. And while the girl in coma fights for her life, her father, striving to pursue justice, faces bureaucratic officers, businessmen, policemen and embassy workers. This is a political drama about chaotic post-war Kosovo, but, before all, it is a drama about unwanted Roma in Europe. Away from those common stereotypes about Roma, away from that exoticism which usually accompanies Roma topics, “Yue Medlin Yue” is an intelligent drama that excellently reviews the emotional process that thousands of Roma people from Europe undergo, yielding to violent processes of repatriation.
