Media Archaeology: The Nineties

Media archaeology is a long term research and program project, initiated in Academic Film Center in October 2006, by a pilot program “Economic propaganda program”. We deal with media forms as symptoms of social phenomena, which is the reason for exploring their historical and documentary value. Presenting this research in a dynamic program model of the discussion of two hosts and with participation and contributions of the audience turned out to be a right model of communication with the generation which didn’t have chance to observe the emergence and development of current and the transformation of past media phenomena.

The series of lectures which was focused on media forms in Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, with one special edition focused on the translating of western pop culture in Asia, in 2007 established a new approach not only to the research in observing recent history as a history of media, but a new program concept which is inclusive enough to open a possibility for communication with new generations and this way to enable insight in their perception of contemporary media forms and their pretext.
Continuing the concept of presenting decades through the media forms specific for those periods, a complex research was performed before starting with a demanding task of analysis of the 1990’s in Serbia. In this research, from a time distance not so big, we are trying to analyze the way a dramatic social crisis was followed in media and to remind on the depth and influence these changes still have in media production.

The team of the project: Boško Prostran, Jovan Bačkulja, Aleksandra Sekulić, Stevan Vuković;, Ivica Đorđević, Nebojša Petrović,
With the support of Ivko Šešić, Curator of the Archive of Alternative Film and Video, Isabel Herling, also numerous cooperatives in the country and the region.
