What is the media inheritance in the V4 countries and what challenges do the journalists face?

The documentary film “20 Years Later“ explores the media inheritance of the previous regime, the current atmosphere in the society and the legal framework for media in the V4 countries. It points to the challenges met by the journalists in printed and electronic media in Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia together with the representatives of the journalists’ associations. People who made the film had the opportunity to talk to the one of the great names in the journalism, Adam Michnik, and media experts who witnessed the transition period.

19:00 Years Eaten by the Lions, Boro Kontić, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2010, 60'

The role of domestic journalists in the break up of Yugoslavia.

The author of this film has been gathering examples of unprofessional journalism during the war in ex-Yugoslavia (1991-1995), especially those about stirring up war, propaganda and hate speech. From July 2009, using his camera he followed the development of the announced criminal charges from NUNS (Independent Journalists Association of Sebia) to the Office of the War Crime Prosecutor in Serbia against unknown journalists responsible for stirring up war propaganda. This was the first real effort to raise the question of responsibility of journalists in stirring up war. At the same time, from July 2009 to May 2010, the author crossed the region visiting people who in any way involved in war propaganda, searching for answers to the questions: “Where are war propaganda journalists now and are they doing?” and “Does this issue have any more relevance in this region?”
