In time when black magic and witchcraft are considered to be mythical things of the past, “Seeking Magic” takes us to Kosovo where many people still visit mystical healers seeking guidance and cure for their illness. This documentary follows the story of two young women, who having lost all hope at other places, turn to “magical doctors” to solve their problems. A utopian urbanistic experiment for Bulgarian Roma turns into a desolate habitat.

Twenty-five years ago “block 20” inhabited by the Roma had everything necessary to make it a role model of socialist paradise: parquet on the floors, central heating with warm water, street lights, and benches below the apple trees. Somebody named it “Paradise Hotel” and this name remained. With the years, however, the block gradually changed. The parquet disappeared. The water stopped running. The lights went out. The occasion for this panel discussion is the Bulgarian documentary “Paradise Hotel”, which deals with the phenomena of the block 20, “paradise hotel” for the Roma – an experiment by the Bulgarian government from 1985.
